Andy Roddick became the biggest casualty of the men's draw so far at the French Open as he lost 6-4 6-4 6-2 to qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili.
Sixth seed Roddick, whose preparations have been hit by a virus, saw his miserable Roland Garros record extended by this loss to the world number 114.
For Gabashvili a possible quarter-final meeting with third seed Novak Djokovic awaits should he overcome Austria's Melzer or Spain's Ferrer.

An out of sorts Serena Williams has made it into the last 16 of this year’s French Open. The women’s top seed eased to 6-1 in her first set against Russian outsider Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before suffering a 6-1 reverse in the second as she received court-side treatment and medication for what appeared to be a high temperature. Serena though recovered her touch in the deciding set beating the Russian 6-2. Andy Roddick meanwhile has crashed out of the tournament after a shock straight sets defeat to Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili. A-Rod losing out 6-4 6-4 6-2.

Israeli AircraftThe Israeli military says its aircraft fired missiles at a metal workshop and a militants' tunnel in Hamas-ruled Gaza.

Hamas security officials said Saturday that nine missiles were fired, but that no one was hurt.
The military says the tunnel targeted late Friday was dug with the intention of smuggling militants from Gaza into Israel. Metal workshops are part of Gaza's small homegrown weapons industry, which makes crude rockets that are fired at Israeli border towns.
Hamas says the workshop targeted Friday was destroyed.
The airstrikes came a day after a rocket fired from Gaza hit near an Israeli town and armed men tried unsuccessfully to rush across the border with Israel.

Kingston, JamaicaJamaica death toll rises but kingpin eludes assault

Slum dwellers in Kingston are seething with anger at Jamaica's security forces' house-to-house searches for a powerful druglord, with the death toll rising but no trace of the operation's target.

Police said Thursday that 73 bodies have been found in morgues, some in a state of decomposition, although several deaths may not have been linked to the four-day-old assault. Three security personnel have died.

Heaps of sometimes smouldering garbage littered streets of western Kingston, a world away from Jamaica's world-famous beaches and the stronghold of gangster Christopher "Dudus" Coke -- who is wanted by the United States on drug charges.

"Coke, he take care the community. Residents accused security forces of firing indiscriminately in recent days.

"Why so many deaths for one man? Government officials have refused to discuss Coke's whereabouts.

Hinds said the lines between civilians and combatants had become blurry, saying civilians were "sometimes also gunmen and gunwomen."

"Security forces have so far accounted for four firearms seized, quite a low number compared with the number of people killed," the rights group pointed out.

Walls were covered with artwork depicting Coke's father and don predecessor, Jim Brown, who died in a mysterious fire at a police jail in 1991.

The relationships between the gangsters are government are complicated. At election time, Coke had mobilized for Prime Minister Bruce Golding's Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), while other dons have supported the opposition.

Golding, who represents Tivoli Gardens in parliament, declared a state of emergency on Sunday after months of hesitation, vowing both to capture Coke and to battle Jamaica's scourge of crime.

The United States has strongly supported the operation and provided bulletproof vests to Jamaican security forces, concerned about the island's role as a conduit for drugs.

Prince of Persia, Movie, Box Office
Just four weeks into the crucial summer movie season, Hollywood is bracing for what could be its third consecutive big budget disappointment.

Walt Disney Studios' big-screen video game adaptation "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, probably won't open in first or even second place over the lucrative four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to people who have seen pre-release audience surveys.
The three films are expected to divide up the moviegoing audience, with women most interested in "Sex and the City 2," men in "Prince of Persia" and families in "Shrek."

Last weekend the film brought in an unimpressive $18 million in 19 foreign countries where it opened early.
Hoping to get a jump on this holiday weekend, distributor Warner Bros. opened the sequel Thursday.
Like the first movie, "Sex and the City 2" has generated significant interest among females, making it a so-called fanboy movie for women.
Through Wednesday it had sold out more than 600 shows via ticketing websites.

Obama, Oil Leak
U.S. President Barack Obama extended on Thursday a moratorium on new offshore oil drilling by six months in the wake of BP's (BP.L) massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. [ID:nN27251889] [ID:nSPILL]

Following are comments on this announcement:

* U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

"If the delay is for a season to ensure we have the highest levels of protection in place, that's one thing. But if it means that existing permits are allowed to lapse - effectively killing Shell's participation in Alaska - that's not acceptable to me or Alaska."

"We need to be able to tell Shell that this one-year delay isn't in reality a life sentence. Otherwise this decision puts Shell's entire Alaska program at risk."

* Steven Newman, Chief Executive Officer, Transocean Ltd (RIGN.S)

"I think a pause is prudent," Newman told a congressional hearing, adding that he thinks the pause should only apply to deepwater drilling permits. "It's incredibly important to understand what happened and how to prevent such leaks in the future."

He said long term the Gulf is important to the U.S. economy. "The ability of the U.S. to manage risk is far superior to other areas of the world and I'd hate to see us export that challenge."

* Michael Brune, Executive Director, Sierra Club

"It's very encouraging to see President Obama taking steps to end the lax safety regulations the oil industry has fought so hard to maintain and to put a stop to more drilling in areas like the Arctic and Virginia. The changes President Obama announced will help reduce the risk of another catastrophic oil blowout. These are important short-term moves, but these steps won't solve the underlying problems caused by our reliance on oil."

* Marilyn Heiman, Director, Pew Environment Group's U.S. Arctic Program

"We are very pleased with the President's decision to suspend Arctic exploration drilling this summer. A delay until 2011 will provide the affected communities and agencies the opportunity to further study proposed drilling technology, oil spill response capabilities and the effects of oil drilling in the sensitive Arctic marine environment."

* Gene Karpinski, President, LCV

"We commend President Obama for continuing the moratorium on new deepwater oil drilling permits pending the recommendations of the independent presidential commission, which includes delaying leases sales off the coast of Alaska. The ongoing tragedy in the Gulf Coast clearly demonstrates that our dependence on oil - be it from hostile nations or friendly coasts - hurts our economy, threatens our security and harms our environment."

The winner Of American Idol, Lee DeWyze
Wednesday night was the much-anticipated finale of American Idol's season nine.
What other reason would there be for Alice Cooper, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Bret Michaels, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Dane Cook and a whole troop of up-and-coming pop stars to share the stage with country's favorite American Idol, Carrie Underwood?
The winner in this year's race between a local paint salesman and a single mom was the paint salesman: Lee DeWyze.

Shania Twain, country pop pioneer,American IdolAmerican Idol invited country-pop pioneer Shania Twain on as the mentor Tuesday night (April 27) with just six contestants remaining. They all did Twain songs, some better than others.

At this point in the show, you can pretty much assume that everybody loves everybody. There is not a whole lot of criticism going on.

It was Crystal Bowersox who probably received the least love of the night. Is that why I finally started to see past the lip piercing and the dreadlocks? No. I'm not that much of a contrarian. I didn't favor her because of their dislike of her. I just thought her performance of Twain's "No One Needs to Know" was the best because it was, what's the word -- oh, yeah, country. She had a quiet little interpretation of the song (one she called a message to her boyfriend whom she hoped would man-up one of these days) with a mandolin, snare drum, upright bass and lap steel guitar behind her. It was perfect. But Simon Cowell called it "limp," saying the song was "forgettable," and compared the performance to the feeling you get when a coffee shop hires a band to sing to you -- and you don't particularly want them to. Bowersox defended herself, saying, "Bigger isn't always better."

If it was up to me, I'd say Bowersox and that backing band of hers owned country week.

Mourinho revealed that he is ready to move on after achieving an unprecedented treble with Inter.

Mourinho went as far as suggesting that he will meet with Real president Florentino Perez in the coming days to thrash out the terms of his move.

The headline in Spanish newspaper AS was simply "Signed", while Marca also suggested that Mourinho had already agreed to replace Manuel Pelligrini at the Bernabeu before Saturday's Champions League final.

Madrid have long been linked with a move for Mourinho but that speculation has peaked over the last few months with the Spanish giants struggling to justify the huge on-field investment they made last summer.

Real Madrid have announced the sacking of manager Manuel Pellegrini, paving the way for Jose Mourinho to take up the vacant Bernabeu hotseat.

Pellegrini was charged with bringing domestic and European glory to the club, on the back of Barcelona's treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League triumphs in 2009.

But despite Real spending €252 million on new faces including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso, los Merengues failed to win any major silverware.

Pellegrini's side finished second in the Primera Division, exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by lower league minnows Alcorcon.

Real president Florentino Perez revealed the decision at a press conference on Wednesday.

Mourinho, who led Inter to an unprecedented treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League titles, is under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2012, but has a get-out clause in his deal which will be exercised should Madrid meet the fee of €16 million euros.

The Portuguese boss has appeared confident over the past few days that he will be coaching in Spain next season, and after meeting with Inter's finance director Rinaldo Ghelfi in Milan on Tuesday said: "Now I am on holiday, then I will go and work in Spain.
