According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), cadmium was found in the painted designs of the characters Shrek, Fiona, Puss n’ Boots, and Donkey. McDonald's sold the 16-ounce glasses throughout the United States for about $2.The CPSC said "long-term exposure [to cadmium] ... can cause adverse health effects." Cadmium is a known carcinogen that can cause bone and kidney problems.
Consumers have been asked to stop using the glasses immediately.
